Tournament Overview

The Wasatch Intermountain Duals is one of the toughest tournaments of the year.  It is an all out grind; every round is another dual against a solid team. This Dual meet tournament is structured so that each team has 10 duals and then over all record and total points decides the winner.  With 15 teams, not every team wrestles each other.  In total 8 ranked teams are slated to attend along with a couple of teams looking to get into the top 25.

Who Will Be There:

Altamont, American Leadership Academy, Box Elder, Central -Grand Junction, Farmington, Maple Mountain, Mountain Crest, Payson, Pleasant Grove, Pleasant Grove 2, Ridgeline, South Summit, Syracuse, and Wasatch.

Key Team Projections:

This will be the first true test of Altamont.  Do they deserve the #4 ranking?  After this weekend we will know the answer to that.

How will a Wasatch team with some holes hold up to the pressure?

Payson vs. Mountain Crest, who will emerge to the favorite to challenge Uintah in the 4A?

After finishing just out of the top 10 at the L.I.T. can Farmington make a case to be ranked?

How good is ALA?  Rumors abound, but can they field a team that can challenge any of the top teams in the state?

Key Match Ups:

Cochran –Chamberlain 2

106:  Can former #1 Ricks challenge current #1 Morris?  What does Lukas Carillo look like in his first big event?

Heywood vs Mortimer these two have missed wrestling each other for 2 years now.  Should be a barn burner.

After coming off an injury can Cooper Cox bounce back and challenge Frasure for the second spot in 5A at 120?

Rhett Miner at 126:  How does the returning 6A finalist do in an ALA singlet?  He pinned Delta’s Jayden Petersen in his first match back, can he make a statement in Heber?

Jaxon Moore vs Tucker Naccarato

ALL of 182.  4 ranked wrestlers 3 others who are on the watch list should be a tough weekend with a lot of implications moving forward.

Analysis and Predictions:

Teams: Wasatch will struggle on the weekend, and will falter in a couple duals. Solid teams who have a full lineup  like Payson, Pleasant Grove, Syracuse  and Mountain Crest give the Wasps fits.  In a dual meet format, we give the edge to Payson and Syracuse to end Saturday on top.

106: Morris wins a close one against Ricks.  The real question is “Do we see Carillo?”  If we do he splits with Morris and Ricks.

120: Frasure v Wardle 2: If Wasatch and Farmington meet up, the bout at 120 will be a show stopper.  Look for Frasure to make some adjustments to close the gap against an on fire River Wardle, but Wardle pulls out a close win to secure his spot as the #1 guy in the state.

132: Heywood proves too much for Mortimer in a high scoring affair 10-7

138: In a deep weight,  Stockton is the favorite.  He will prove why he is considered the best 138lber in the State.

145: Nothing to see here, Kohler goes to work and bonuses his way through the tournament.

160:  Jaxon Moore vs Tucker Naccarato this matchup will come down to Jaxon Moore pulling our a reveral to back points or a fall for the win.

182: Chamberlain v Cochran 2:  Chamberlain wins in the rematch.   At 182 don’t count on anyone escaping the weekend unscathed.  It would be a feat to come through that gauntlet without stumbling.

285: Ryan Gunn dominates the competition looking for a matchup with one of the PG big men for supremacy in State.
