The Layton Invitational Tournament has become one of the toughest tournaments in the state of Utah.  This early season competition tends to separate the best wrestlers in the state from those who are not quite to that level this early, and it always gives us some early season matchups that we are excited to see.  This year, there is a girl’s tournament and a 98lb division at the LIT.  This is a departure from the norm in Utah and a progressive move on the part of Layton High.  The level of competition is high and there are top-level matches from the quarterfinals on.  Show up on Saturday for some great matches.

What competition looks like:

This is your typical 32-man bracket with a wrestle back that places 6.

Who will be there:

Alta, Bingham, Bonneville, Bountiful, Box Elder, Brighton, Clearfield, Corner Canyon, Farmington, Fremont, Green Canyon, Herriman, Hunter, Jordan,

Juan Diego, Layton, Lehi, Morgan, North Summit, Olympus, Payson, Pine View, Roy, Sky View, South Summit, Taylorsville, Uintah, Union, Viewmont, Wasatch, West

Key Team Match Ups:

The biggest match up is #1 vs. #2 in the Team 25.  Can Layton hold off Wasatch at their own tournament?  Coach Fager has a habit of sitting kids out; will he put his whole team out there and try to take over the top spot in Utah?

Payson vs. Uintah; these two hope to be the class of 4A, this early season tournament will go a long way to show where they are at, and if either can fend off Mountain Crest’s bid to repeat.

Key Questions that will be answered:

There are at least six possible match ups where the top guy in the PowerPoll will possibly face off with #2.

Preliminary weights for many wrestlers will be established, not saying it will not change, but the landscape of Utah High School wrestling will become a lot clearer after this weekend.
