North Summit ended up with a 2nd place finish at last years High School State tournament losing by only 4 points. They have 4 returning state placers and another 12 returning state qualifiers coming back into the lineup. Tyler Scheurn and Jackson Prescott are leading the team with 2nd place finishes at state from 2018.
North Summit will be looking to take out Altamont for the state title this year. With 2A only scoring 1 wrestler per weight North Summit has a solid enough line up to give Altamont a scare. North Summit returns at least a state qualifier in every weight but 106. At 106 Tristan Smith will be in the hunt for a state title this year so that is not one of their holes. The difference between Altamont and North Summit is that Altamont has 1 possibly 2 holes that they need to get figured out (106 and 220). If they don't get those weights figured out they may not score any points at those two weights and that might be the break North Summit needs to sneak up on them. On the flip side Altamont has a lot of studs that will be competing for state titles. I count a possible 7-9 weights where Altamont could challenge for a top 3 finish at state where I only see 3-5 for North Summit. North Summit will need a few more kids to step up and perform big in February if they want to take home a title this year.
