Utah Girls Top 15

By, 11/06/19, 1:00PM MST

This year we have moved the Girls Top 10 to the Girls Top 15. As more girls begin to wrestle we will continue to grow this list. Girls wrestling in Utah is beginning to grow quickly and we had the first ever girls head coach hired to run the Cyprus girls team in Cara Romeike. We hope to see Girls Wrestling sanctioned by the UHSAA in 2020. With our continued growth this is a real possibility!

In the National rankings we have 4 girls from Utah ranked in Sage Mortimer #1 at 100lbs, Kierstien Bush #16 at 112lbs, Elleni Johnson #10 at 132lbs and Kathleen Janis #8 at 225lbs. Elleni is not ranked in the below rankings due to the fact she is at Wyoming Seminary competing this year outside of Utah.

The Utah Girls Top 15 is a pound for pound ranking similar to the Beehive Top 25. We hope that through these rankings and others these girls will get the recognition they deserve and help propel Utah Girls wrestling to a new level.

#1 Sage Mortimer: American Leadership Academy

Junior, 106lbs

Sage is on a roll nationally as she is currently ranked #1 in the country at 100lbs. She was a double National Champion at Fargo and is a member of the USA World Team. Sage has 2 more years trying to become the first girl to win a boys state title in Utah.

#2 Kierstien Bush: Bonneville

Senior, 113 pounds

Kierstien has been wrestling on the national scene for awhile now and competes very well. She is currently ranked #16 in the country and will be competing at the US Open in December.

#3 Abi Archibald: Maple Mountain

Junior, 152lbs

Abi is one of Utah's elite wrestlers, she won the Girls state tournament this past season by pinning all her opponents. She is a little under the radar since she competes in other sports and isn't always able to get to the national events but very deserving of the #3 spot.

#4 Tenley Jones: North Summit

Sophomore, 113lbs

Just a sophomore she is young and has plenty of seasons left. She placed 2nd at state losing to #1 Sage Mortimer. This past summer she placed 6th at the Western States Championships and won the Intermountain Warrior Challenge.

#5 Mia May: West

Senior, 132lbs

Mia won the Girls State Championship winning a hard fought match against Ashtyn Lowe 5-4.  She competes quite a bit and with it coming into her senior year will be fun to watch her continue making improvements.

#6 Alyssa Pace: Copper Hills High School

Junior 113lbs

You won't find too many that compete more than Alyssa. She placed 3rd at the Western States Championships and 1st at the Utah Girls State.

#7 Kathleen Janis: Layton

Senior, 195lbs

Kathleen has progressed each year since she started wrestling and is now currently ranked #8 in the country after winning a Folkstyle National Championship this season. As she continues to win we could see her move up the rankings!

#8 Ashtyn Lowe: Maple Mountain

Junior, 126lbs

Placed 2nd at Girls State losing a close one to Mia May. Ashtyn will be looking to get revenge on that loss and win a state title as a Junior.

#9 Taci Tapia: Carbon

Junior, 120lbs

Taci was a State Champion back in 2018 but last year placed 3rd. Being in the 120 pound weight division we could see some good match ups as we have a couple others on this list around that weight.

#10 Trinity Speredon: Northridge High School

Junior, 120lbs

Trinity was out almost the whole season last year with injury so she will look to get back on track in 2019. Before the injury Trinity was cementing herself as a top competitor in Utah and I have no doubt she will continue that trend now that she is healthy.

#11 Rebekah Hardman: Park City High School

Senior, 113lbs

A 2x Utah Girls State Champion. Now moving up to 113lbs she will be challenged by a few girls and also have the opportunity to move up into the top 10.

#12 Alexa Camacho: Provo High School

Senior, 126lbs

State Champion in 2018 but fell to 2nd last year losing to Bush in the finals. Alexa is another that competes every chance she can and as a senior we will see it pay off.

#13: Olivia Carrillo - American Leadership Academy

Freshman, 126lbs

Our only freshman to make the list, but she is legit. As Olivia continues to compete we will see her climb these rankings quickly.

#14: Tania Batta: Kearns High School

Senior, 138lbs

Girls State runner up, lost a close one 6-3 to Elleni Johnson but was a freestyle state champion.

#15: Grace Montierth: Ridgeline High School

Junior, 182lbs

Girls State Champion and has pretty much won everything as of late. I hope we get to see a match up with her and Janis as that one could be a good one!
