OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley University wrestling team opened the season with its annual Green & Black Intrasquad Dual on Saturday at the UVU Grande Ballroom on the Utah Valley campus. UVU's Green team won the match with a 41-15 victory over team Black.

In all, four newcomers recorded wins for the Green squad en route to the victory, including five wins from true freshmen Matt Findlay (141), Taylor LaMont (125), Michael Milliner (165) and Koy Wilkinson (165). Redshirt freshmen Kimball Bastian (174), Grant LaMont (149), and Tanner Orndorff (197) also picked up wins.

"I'm excited about our new guys," said Utah Valley head coach Greg Williams. "We know we have some talent there. A couple of our redshirt freshmen did very well as they are stepping up into varsity roles this season. It's going to be interesting to see what happens when we begin to wrestle some top quality opponents to see exactly where we are. We know we still have some work to do to beat those top-tier teams. We do see some improvement and we do have the talent and we're excited about it."

Findlay picked up a pair of wins over senior Trevor Willson (6-4) and junior Jarod Maynes with a last-second fall in the first sudden victory overtime period (7:59). Grant LaMont also had two victories on the day, defeating junior Matthew Ontiveros (7-4) and freshman Landon Knutzen by fall in 2:27.
