The Utah Valley University wrestling team is set to kick off their season this upcoming Saturday, October 29th at 4pm with their annual intrasquad match. The match will take place in the UVU Grand Ballroom (same place as the Hall of Fame Banquet). Admission to the event is free so all are invited to come watch.

The Wolverines will be showcasing many of their top recruits from this past year including Taylor LaMont and Matt Findlay. All match ups are tentative at this time but a few top match ups we expect to see are freshman Taylor LaMont up against expected starter Mitch Brown. The two will clash at 125lbs. Matt Findlay is expected to make his debut in a Wolverine uniform against another expected starter at 141 Trevor Wilson. Matt Ontiveras was the starter for the Wolverines at 149 pounds last year and is expected to redshirt this year but he will be taking on another local wrestler in Grant LaMont. A battle for a starting spot will take place at two weights on Saturday. One will be at 165 where two local wrestlers will be battling in Dalton Harmon from Juab and Koy Wilkinson from Pleasant Grove. Heavyweight will also be up for grabs in returning starter Dustin Dennison taking on Jordan Karst. 

Other wrestlers to watch on Saturday are returning starters; Jared Maynes, Raider Lofthouse and Will Sumner. Jared will be dropping to 133lbs, while Raider will be at 157 and Will at 184. Kimball Bastian and Tanner Orndorff both redshirted last year but expect to be in the starting line up this year at 174 and 197. Both placed at the National Open as redshirts in 2016. 

Many other local wrestlers are expected to make their Wolverine debut including Landon Knutzen (Maple Mountain), Michael Milliner (Bonneville), and Heston Woolsey (Weber). All wrestlers are expected to compete on Saturday (unless injured) so we will get a first hand look at all our incoming freshman and all our returning Wolverines.
