OREM, Utah – Utah Valley University wrestling coach Greg Williams has announced his team's 2016-17 schedule and it features another highly competitive slate with eight home dates on it this year as well as six challenging tournaments.

The eight home dates marks the most home contests in program history. Seven of the home dates will be dual meets, while the other will be the annual UVU Open tournament. All seven home duals will also come against either fellow Big 12 Conference counterparts or Pac-12 Conference foes.

Traditional wrestling powers Oregon State, Stanford, Wyoming and North Dakota State will all come to Orem this season, along with Air Force, Northern Colorado and CSU Bakersfield. UVU will also take on fellow powerhouses Northern Iowa and Boise State on the road this season, as well as South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Nebraska-Kearney.

"We are excited to have such a great schedule this year," stated Williams. "We are always looking to wrestle as many top teams as we can. Adding UNI, the Iowa State tournament (Harold Nichols Cyclone Open) and the prestigious Southern Scuffle are great opportunities for us.

"We are also thrilled to have seven home dual meets this season, including perennial Pac-12 powers Oregon State and Stanford as well as conference rivals Wyoming and NDSU. Our team is adding more talent than we've ever had and it is our goal to provide some great matches and entertainment for our Utah wrestling community."

The Wolverines will open the season at the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyoming, on Nov. 5 before heading to Iowa the following week for a pair of duals against UNI and UNK in Cedar Falls on Nov. 11 and Iowa State's Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Nov. 13. Utah Valley will then return home for an early home match against fellow Big 12 foe NDSU on Nov. 18 in the PE Building.

UVU will then return to tournament action in early December, when it heads to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 2-3. The following weekend, Dec. 10, Utah Valley will then head to Boise, Idaho, for a clash with rival Boise State. The Wolverines will return to the PE Building the following week for a Thursday night showdown against Oregon State -- who UVU upset in Corvallis a year ago -- on Dec. 15 before hitting the road for the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 18.

Utah Valley will open the New Year at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Jan. 1-2 before returning to Orem to host the UVU Open on Jan. 7. The UVU Open will begin a three-week homestand for the Wolverines in which Air Force (Jan. 13), CSU Bakersfield (Jan. 19) and Wyoming (Jan. 28) will all also come to town. UVU will then continue conference action on the road when it heads to the Dakotas in early February for duals against North Dakota State (Feb. 3) and South Dakota State (Feb. 4). The Wolverines will then close their regular season with home contests against Stanford and Northern Colorado on back-to-back days on Feb. 10 and 11, respectively.

The Wolverines will then have nearly a month off to prepare for the 2017 Big 12 Championships that will run March 4-5 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, UVU will try to qualify as many of its wrestlers for the NCAA Championships that will be held March 16-18 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The Wolverines crowned their second All-American in program history this past season when departed senior Jade Rauser placed eighth at the 2016 NCAA Championships at 133 pounds.
