The annual Utah Valley Wolverine intrasquad dual will be at 7pm on Friday the 30th on UVU campus in the Shurian Activity Center (volleyball gym right next to the UCCU Center). Admission is free to the event and will feature two youth featured matches as well the 2015-2016 UVU wrestling team.

With the college wrestling season less than one week away here is an in depth weight by weight preview of the Utah Valley Wolverines as well as expected intrasquad match ups at each weight. We will be posting two weight classes per day, go Wolverines!!

125 projected starter: Chasen Tolbert (Senior)

  • Credentials: 2015 NCAA Qualifier, currently ranked #14 in the country.
  • Challenger: Tyler Scott, Josh Temple
  • Redshirts: Mitch Brown
  • Expected Intrasquad matches:
    • Chasen Tolbert vs. Mitch Brown
    • Tyler Scott vs. Josh Temple
    • Mitch Brown vs. winner of Scott/Temple

Chasen is the clear starter here for the Wolverines. He is currently ranked #14 in the country. Last year he finished 18-8 on the year with wins over nationally ranked opponents including David Terao, Josh Martinez and Evan Silver. The future is also bright at this weight with Mitch Brown coming in as a transfer from Air Force.  Mitch is from Payson where he was a 3x Utah state champion. At Air Force in his freshman year he went 15-7 overall. He will be redshirting this season.

Chasen Tolbert: 125lbs

Chasen Tolbert: 125lbs

Jade Rauser: 133lbs

133 projected starter: Jade Rauser (Senior)

  • Credentials: 3x NCAA qualifier
  • Challengers: Jarod Maynes
  • Redshirts: none
  • Expected Intrasquad matches
    • Jade Rauser vs. Jarod Maynes

Jade Rauser is probably the most seasoned wrestler for UVU this year coming in as a 3x NCAA qualifier and with many wins over top 20 opponents. Last year at the NCAA Tournament Jade defeated 2x All American, Mason Beckman to begin the tournament then lost a down to the wire heartbreaker to All-American Jimmy Gulibon from Penn State and then was ousted by 3x All-American AJ Schopp from Edinboro. He showed at last year’s tournament that he is a legitimate contender to be on the podium this season. Jarod Maynes will be a sophomore this year. Jarod won the UVU open last year and looks to work his way into the starting line-up soon.
