American Fork High School

Rhett Miner has been named wrestleutah.com "Athlete of the Week" for October 19th, 2015.

Rhett is in 9th grade and has been wrestling since he was in 4th grade.  He is currently enjoying Fall League.  Last week, he won all of his matches and nobody scored on him.  This high school season, he will vie for the 106-pound weight class under Coach Spencer at American Fork High School.  His short-term goals include varsity and state placement.  In the long term, he wants to be a state champion and wrestle in college.

Last season, he placed 6th at Northern State, 6th at Super State, and 5th at Freestyle State.  Obviously, those are not championships.  But, they represent great accomplishments and a turning point for Rhett because prior to that season, he had only limited success.  Those spots on the podium represent Rhett's perseverance, love of the sport, and great coaching.  He thanks Coach Cole Kelley and his Mettle Wrestling teammates for his progress.  He also thanks his parents for helping him maintain a positive attitude through the tough times.

Rhett is the oldest child in his family.  He has five siblings.  He is a good example and a student of the sport, which enable him to help his younger brothers along the way.  Rhett is a good student, particularly excelling in math and Chinese, and he is an Eagle Scout.  When not wrestling, studying, or scouting, he enjoys hanging out with friends and watching "The Walking Dead". He also enjoys hunting and is excited to try out his new 7 mm magnum rifle on the elk and deer hunts this year.
