SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzogovina – The United States has its first medal match opportunities at the UWW Cadet World Championships on Tuesday.

Competing in his third straight UWW Cadet World meet, Taylor LaMont of Mapleton, Utah is in a bronze-medal bout at 58 kg/127.7 lbs., facing 2014 Cadet World silver medalist Edgar Tamazyan of Armenia.

LaMont opened with a 4-0 win over Ivan Gaidarji of Moldova, then was defeated in the quarterfinals by 2014 Cadet World champion Amin Kaviyaninejad of Iran, 0-1. When the Iranian reached the finals, LaMont was pulled back into repechage. He defeated Georgi Iliev of Bulgaria, 12-4 in repechage to earn his spot in the bronze-medal round.

LaMont was a Junior National freestyle champion and Junior National Greco-Roman runner-up in Fargo this year.

The U.S. had three other wrestlers who won a match in the tournament but did not reach the medal rounds, Paul Bianchi of Two Rivers, Wis. at 54 kg/119 lbs., Dominick Demas of Columbus, Ohio at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Anthony Piscopo of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. at 100 kg/220 lbs.

Bianchi and Demas lost to finalists and were pulled back into repechage, but lost those matches and did not advance to a medal bout.

The finals are set for 7:30 p.m. Bosnia time, which is five hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time.

The final five U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers weigh in and receive their draws this afternoon.
