While some kids are enjoying the off season, there is no shortage of top level training and competition going on this week to prepare for Cadet and Junior national competition later this month in Fargo, North Dakota! While over 100 boys are being hosted at the Utah Army National Guard for a week of technique clinics, live wrestling, and strength and conditioning activities, their female counterparts are having a camp of their own this year! Utah's first ever "All Girl's Wrestling Camp" is being hosted in Mapleton, Utah with just under 20 female athletes honing in their skills for national competition! Olympic Training resident and pioneer of Utah Girls Wrestling, Candace Workman is the clinician working in conjunction with Billy Cox, the Utah Girl's Director and Meghann Marchello, the Nevada Girls Director to make the camp successful. The athletes are receiving technique instruction, proper nutrition guidelines, live wrestling, and participating in strength and conditioning activities! In addition, the girls seem to be having a blast and forming friendships to last a lifetime!

"Girls wrestling is the fastest growing high school sport in the nation with Utah being no exception! We have had more girls trying out the sport of wrestling this year than any other year before, and expect the numbers to double or triple next year! I think the fastest growing segment of youth wrestling over the next five to ten years will be our female athletes. We finally have the support system in place to accommodate an equal platform for both boys and girls and are excited that our girls are reaping the same benefits as the boys that this great sport provides! " Billy Cox.

Thanks to all the athletes, coaches, and sponsors of these camps who make it possible for Utah to compete so well on both a national and international level!
