Penn State (Former Cyprus High School)

Matt Brown has been named wrestleutah.com "Athlete of the Week" for April 1st, 2015.

Each week, wrestleutah.com will select two "Athletes of the Week." One for the PreK-9th grade age groups, and one for the high  school  and above  age group  which will include high  school , college, coaches and teams. The selection committee will consider and choose from nominees based upon performance within wrestling that week.

Matt Brown, former wrestler for Cyprus High School, topped his wrestling career this past week by winning the NCAA championship title as a 174 lb Senior wrestler for Penn State.

After graduating from high school 7 years ago, Brown redshirted as a freshman under Coach Cael Sanderson at Iowa State before going on a Mormon mission. Two years later, he returned and wrestled under Sanderson at State College. Four years and many victories later, Brown is the best 174-pound college wrestler in the country.

According to Coach Sanderson, "He's had an amazing career. He's just one of those guys that does everything he is supposed to do, and everything you ask him to do. He's a guy that has gotten the most out of his ability. Three-time All-American, two-time finalist, that's impressive. He's a great competitor, and I'm really happy he finished out with a national championship." (Quote from PennLive.com)

Brown is almost 25 years old, nearly a 4.0 student, is married and in the Army ROTC program. Congratulations to Matt Brown.
