Shaun Stockwell has been named wrestleutah.com "Athlete of the Week" for March 25th, 2015.

Each week, wrestleutah.com will select two "Athletes of the Week." One for the PreK-9th grade age groups, and one for the high  school  and above  age group  which will include high  school , college, coaches and teams. The selection committee will consider and choose from nominees based upon performance within wrestling that week.

Shaun Yuri Stockwell was born in Eastern Ukraine in a city called Sumy, about an hour from the Russian border.  At the age of four he and his sister, Ashley, began living in an orphanage.  At the age of 12, he and his sister were adopted to a family in Draper, Utah, where he now has three other siblings.  While in Ukraine he was an active boy who loved sports, and when he came to America he began to play many various sports while in Junior High School (soccer, basketball, rugby).  By high school, however, he had grown substantially, and he was focusing mainly on wrestling and football.  As a freshman, he gained his first formal training in these two sports, and was wrestling in the 195 weight class.  By the time Spring wrestling finished that year, he had taken the State Championship in freestyle.  Then, his sophomore year he continued to improve and perform well, now wrestling in the 220 weight category.  He took 1st in the Divisional tournament, 3rd in the State tournament, and then went on to win the Super State Championship, qualifying him for his first national tournament. He looks forward to continuing in this sport and is grateful to his coach and his family.
