As the winter folkstyle season begins to wrap up here in Utah, one of the most highly anticipated events for youth wrestlers throughout the state is the Utah Youth Super State Tournament. This year Super State 2015 will be held on February 6th and 7th at the Legacy Events Center in Farmington Utah. Hundreds of talented wrestlers throughout the state of Utah will battle it out on the mat for a chance to walk away with the State Champion title along with a 4 foot trophy and the coveted custom-made “Utah State Champion” singlet.  Trophies are awarded for the top 6 wrestlers in each division.

The energy at this tournament is high.  The athletes work hard all year long, and eagerly await this tournament as a chance to prove themselves to be one of the best in state. Tristian Smith, (6th grader) is a 3x Super State Champion, and a 1x runner up. He has competed in this event since it started back in 2011. When asked about what he likes most about this tournament, Tristan says “I like the level of competition and the singlets.” Tristan is preparing right now for Super State by practicing hard and conditioning. He is hoping to add another giant trophy to his collection this year.

Along with Tristan going for his 4th Super State title we have 4 wrestlers going for their 5th straight Super State title; they are: Jack White and Mason Christiansen of Team Legacy, Spencer Tauteoli of Pleasant Grove and Zak Kohler of Wasatch.
