LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Juniors Jade Rauser and Chasen Tolbert advanced to Saturday's final day of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational after strong performances for Utah Valley University on the mat at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Friday. Both Wolverines will enter Saturday just one win shy of placing at the prestigious tournament.

Both Rauser and Tolbert entered the tournament seeded, as Rauser earned the 11 seed at 133 pounds and Tolbert the 12 at 125. Tolbert led the way out of the two, as he was the lone Wolverine to reach the quarterfinal round after winning his first two bouts on the day.

After defeating fellow Western Wrestling Conference foe Trey Andrews of Northern Colorado via fall (4:24) in his first match, Tolbert then picked up a huge upset victory over the five seed and eighth-ranked David Terao of American in the second round. Tolbert defeated the two-time NCAA qualifier by a score of 4-1 to reach the quarters. In the quarterfinals, Tolbert met up with the four seed and seventh-ranked Josh Martinez of Air Force and Martinez managed to come away with an 8-4 decision over the Wolverine junior.

Rauser, who previously placed eighth at the CKLV Invitational as a redshirt freshman two years ago, had to bounce back after suffering an 8-7 setback to North Idaho's Deondre Wilson in Friday's opening round. The two-time NCAA qualifier for UVU then picked up three straight wins in the consolation bracket to advance to Saturday.

Rauser earned his biggest win of the day in his first bout in the consolation rounds, as he matched up with the six seed and 17th-ranked Josh Terao of American. Rauser dominated the ranked foe as he went on to defeat him by a score of 14-7. Rauser then followed it up with a first-period fall over Harvard's Ryan Osleeb (2:36) and advanced to Saturday with a 7-5 decision over West Virginia's Cory Stainbrook in his final match on Friday.

Tolbert will face 11th-seeded and 20th-ranked Zeke Moisey of West Virginia on Saturday morning while Rauser will take on the two seed and eighth-ranked Johnni DiJulius of Ohio State.

In all, three of the nine Wolverines in action in Las Vegas entered the tournament seeded. Besides Rauser and Tolbert, junior 197-pounder Derek Thomas was the other as he entered the competition seeded seventh in his weight class. Unfortunately, Thomas finished his 2014 tournament run with an 0-2 outing.

Behind Rauser and Tolbert, senior Ethan Smith (174 pounds) and juniors Logan Addis (157) Ross Taylor (184) all recorded multiple wins at the tournament as they each finished with 2-2 records. Freshmen Matthew Ontiveros (141), Dalton Harmon (165) and Jordan Karst(heavyweight) all dropped their first two bouts of the competition to finish at 0-2.

As a team, UVU sits in 27th place out of 37 teams with 19 points. No. 2 Minnesota leads the tournament with 85.5 points while No. 15 Iowa State is in second with 65 and No. 3 Cornell is in third with 61.

The CKLV Invitational will conclude on Saturday. Action will begin at 10 a.m. MT/ 9 a.m. CT and can be followed at FloWrestling.org.
