Nick Bingham has been named wrestleutah.com " High School Athlete of the Week" for December 3rd, 2014. Each week, wrestleutah.com will select two "Athletes of the Week." One for the PreK-9th grade age groups, and one for the high school and above age group which will include high school, college, coaches and teams. The selection committee will consider and choose from nominees based upon performance within wrestling that week.
Nick was born January 1997; He is a senior at Bear River High School, he has a GPA of 3.4. Nick is a very intelligent young man, built with compassion and a big heart (off the mat). He is surrounded by many family members that love and support him in his every endeavor. Everywhere Nick goes he has family that goes to watch him wrestle, from his Grandpa Bill to his aunt Teri and always his biggest fan his mother, Muriel and many others. Nick has a younger brother Zack that is a freshman and a 4 year old sister Auri that he loves very much.
Nick has been around wrestling most of his life, His dad is one the coaches for Bear River High School. He has traveled with the team ever since he could remember to watch the team compete. He grew up with wrestlers always being at the house; he could look up to these wrestlers and tried to emulate them. Nick started wrestling in the little league at the age of three, and has not stopped. He has a drive and a determination that is hard to beat. He always looks for ways to improve and become a better wrestler. Over the past few years he has coached one of Bear River’s little league teams. Nick says, he enjoys coaching the little kids and enjoys being around them. These kids look up to him and he always seems to find time to tell them hi and to make them feel special.
Nick is a four year varsity wrestler. A three time Divisional Finalist, and a three time state placer. His Freshman year he took 6th, as a Sophomore he was the runner up. One of Nick’s goals was to have his name on the wall in the wrestling room as a State Champion. As a Junior he was able to achieve that goal by winning the 3A 113 LBS Utah State title. Nick is also working to duplicate his performance of last year and become a two time champion. He has also placed twice in the Reno World tournament 6th and 3rd. Nick was also selected to wrestle and represent our great state in Australia and New Zealand where he placed 2nd and 3rd with Down Under Sports. His high school record is 120 and 26 with 64 pins. Nick is a 2x team captain.
Over the past summer Nick has spent time traveling visiting colleges on recruiting trips. After visiting many great Universities’ in several states Nick decided to sign a letter of intent with the University of Great Falls (UGF) which is located in Montana. Last year UGF placed second in the nation in the NAIA Division. He is very excited to further his wrestling career at the collegiate level and is excited to wrestle for Coach Schaffer.
Nick likes to hang out with his friends and family. His goals for the near future are to become a college All American and National Champion for UGF. He plans on studying Business Management.
