OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University wrestling team will head to Boise, Idaho, to open its dual season versus No. 16 Iowa State and the host Boise State Broncos on Friday afternoon at Bronco Gym. UVU will first take on the ranked Cyclones at 3 p.m. prior to facing the home Broncos at 4:30 p.m.

Live video can be viewed for both matches by visiting BroncoSports.com. Live results will also be available at TrackWrestling.com.

UVU has competed in two open tournaments so far this season but Friday's action will mark its first dual competition of 2014-15. As a team, the Wolverines went 6-9 overall a year ago and 2-3 in the Western Wrestling Conference. Both of Friday's contests will be non-conference contests as ISU calls the Big 12 Conference home and BSU is a member of the Pac-12 in wrestling.

Thirteen wrestlers will make the trip for the Wolverines and three of them will enter the tournament with identical 4-1 records after leading the way for UVU at the Clarion Open in Clarion, Pennsylvania, two weeks ago. Juniors Chasen Tolbert (125 pounds), Jade Rauser (133) and Derek Thomas (197) all went 4-1 at the season-opening tournament en route to a second-place finish in their respective weight class. Rauser is a returning two-time NCAA qualifier for the Wolverines.

Fellow two-time NCAA qualifier and 14th-ranked Adam Fager (heavyweight) is slated to miss Friday's action with an injury. Fager (2-1) sustained the injury at the Clarion Open on Nov. 2.

On Friday, freshman Matthew Ontiveros (4-2) or senior Derek Malan (0-0) will take the mat for UVU at 141 pounds while sophomore Trevor Willson (3-2) will wrestle at 149 and sophomore Logan Addis (4-2) or redshirt freshman Koleton Hardy (1-2) will compete at 157. True freshman Dalton Harmon (2-2) will get his first taste of collegiate dual competition at 165 pounds while senior Ethan Smith (2-2) is scheduled to start for the Wolverines at 174. Either redshirt junior Ross Taylor (3-2) or sophomore Abel Gomez (2-2) will get the nod at 184 pounds while redshirt freshman Jordan Karst (3-2) is slated to see his first dual action at heavyweight.

About Iowa State
The 16th-ranked Cyclones have taken part in two tournaments so far this season but are yet to have competed in dual action. ISU swept the NIACC Open by winning all 10 titles a couple of weeks ago and followed it up with seven podium finishes at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open last week. ISU went 9-7 overall last year and 1-2 in the Big 12.

Iowa State returns a pair of two-time All-Americans this season in Michael Moreno (165) and Kyven Gadson (197). The two Cyclones are currently ranked third in the nation in their respective weight classes. Two other NCAA qualifiers are also back for ISU in Earl Hall (133) and Tanner Weatherman (174). Hall is currently ranked 13th while Weatherman comes in at seventh. Iowa State has five nationally ranked wrestlers as Lelund Weatherspoon is ranked 18th by InterMat at 184 pounds.

Friday's dual will mark the fourth all-time meeting between ISU and UVU but the first since the 2008-09 season. The Cyclones have taken all three previous meetings as they were ranked second, fifth and seventh nationally at the time.

About Boise State
Friday's action will mark BSU's first dual competition of the season. The Broncos went 3-8 overall last season and 2-4 in the Pac-12. Boise State currently doesn't have any ranked wrestlers and lost both of its 2014 NCAA qualifiers to graduation last year.

Cody Dixon (184) and Chris Castillo (149) are BSU's top returning starters. Dixon went 19-11 overall and 5-6 in duals last season while Castillo finished with a 15-7 mark and 7-3 in duals.

Friday's nightcap will mark the ninth all-time meeting between the Wolverines and Broncos. BSU holds a 5-3 all-time series advantage but UVU handed Boise State a 23-18 defeat in Orem last season.

Up Next for the Wolverines
UVU will continue dual action in Arizona next weekend. The Wolverines will first face-off against Arizona State in Tempe on Friday before traveling to nearby Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon the following night. UVU will then be off until the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational that will take place Dec. 5-6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
