Spencer Heywood has been named wrestleutah.com " High School Athlete of the Week" for September 24th 2014.

Each week, wrestleutah.com will select two "Athletes of the Week." One for the PreK-9th grade age groups, and one for the high school and above age group  which will include high school, college, coaches and teams. The selection committee will consider and choose from nominees based upon performance within wrestling that week.

Spencer Heywood, 17, lives in Heber City, Utah where he is a student-athlete at Wasatch High School.  Spencer does not have a perfect GPA, but he’s close, with a solid 3.933.  He scored a 30 on the ACT and has satisfactorily passed the AP Biology and AP Calculus tests.  He is now enjoying AP Statistics and rounding out his academic schedule with as many concurrent enrollment classes as he can tally.  That said, he made sure his schedule had room for Seminary and Woods 3 this year, too.

Wrestling has provided Spencer with many opportunities for growth and success.  He is a two-time state high school wrestling finalist and, last year, Spencer earned All-American status in three styles, placing 4th in Greco and Freestyle as a Cadet in Fargo, and 2nd at Reno’s Tournament of Champions.  Since he was a Schoolboy, Spencer has enjoyed travelling with Team Utah to national dual tournaments and individual regional and national competitions.  In addition to the wonderful relationships he’s made within Team Utah, Spencer qualified to join Team USA in Recife, Brazil where he earned silver medals in Greco and Freestyle at the 2014 FILA Cadet Pan American Championships.

Football is another of Spencer’s pursuits and as #35 for the Wasatch Wasps, Spencer is an explosive running back and linebacker.  Outside his life as a student-athlete, Spencer runs a lawn maintenance and snow removal company he formed with his brothers, and spends as much time as he can in the mountains around Heber Valley.  In quiet moments he plays the piano, guitar and ukulele and enjoys being a part of the lives of his family and friends.  The photo shown here was taken by his sister, Savannah who needed a model for a photography project at school.  (His best ear is hidden by shadow.)
