170 POUND PRESEASON RANKINGS

The top spot for 170lbs goes to Wasatch's Payton Mair. Payton placed 2nd at state last year losing to Kimball Bastian in the finals. During last year Mair beat Wind from Pleasant Grove who is a 2x state champ so he has the wins to earn him the top spot.  The #2 spot goes to 3x state champion from Monticello, Cole Eldredge. At The Rumble Cole placed 5th with a win over the 2A state champion, Anderson.

Sophomore, Ashton Seely will start at #3 after an impressive freshman season. Ashton won the state title for Juab and now will look to win state for a second consecutive year and take the #1 spot away from Mair. Spencer Hansen from Westlake is ranked #4 after a 4th place finish at state last year. Hansen had some solid wins including wins over Cole Johnson and Tevin Nuttal. Spencer is the top 5A wrestler this year and has his eyes set on a state championship.

The #5 ranked wrestler, Shane French, will have something to say about Hansen getting that state title. The Herriman wrestler has been at 170lbs for two straight years and looks to be here again. Shane placed 4th last year at state losing early but battled back. Tevin Nuttall from Springville is ranked #6, Nuttall placed 6th at state in a tough 4A 160 pound weight class. Nuttall defeated Cole Johnson at The Rumble and defeated Walker VanTassell during the year. Tevin had a solid year last year.

John Harmon of Payson is ranked #7. Harmon placed 3rd at state losing 1-0 to Aston Seely in the semifinals. Harmon also has a head to head win over Brooks of Cedar City. Harmon will be a senior so this will be his last chance to get on top of that podium. Dallin Brooks from Cedar City is ranked #8 after a 2nd place finish at state. He lost a close 1-0 battle with Seely and again along with Harmon will look to bump Seely from winning this second straight state title.

#9 spot goes to Emery's Matt Mecham. Matt made the state finals this past year but lost taking 2nd place. Mecham had a solid season last year with only 11 losses. Third place state finisher from Millard, Tyler Gamble takes the #9 spot. Tyler was an All-Star team member this past year and beat Koy Wilkinson twice last year but dropped a close one to Matt Mecham at state 8-7.
