It's been a big week for Team Utah: our Junior boys came through strong on the Greco-Roman side of the National Duals, earning a runner-up finish to Illinois, then pivoting immediately into the Freestyle competition with a #2 seed today — and a mission—to work through the tougher early matchups and go all the way.

Solid Silver in Greco-Roman

Utah hit finals hard, ultimately falling 39–24 to a talented Illinois after dominating in earlier rounds. Coming out second nationally in Greco isn’t just impressive—it’s a signal that this team is built to challenge the best, and they did just that.

#2 Seed in Freestyle Brackets

Fast forward to Freestyle for today and tomorrow, and Team Utah is still riding high. USA Wrestling has slotted Utah into Pool B as the #2 seed, sitting just behind Illinois (Pool A) and ahead of heavy hitters Pennsylvania Red and Indiana Gold. That spot gives Team Utah a favorable path to reach Saturday’s medal rounds—and with the momentum from Greco, they’re locked in to capitalize.

What This Means for Team Utah

  1.
  2. Momentum is with them – Coming off a finals run in Greco, confidence is sky high. These guys are battle-tested, and that matters when brackets tighten.
  3. Seeded to succeed – The #2 slot in Freestyle gives Utah a clearer roadmap through pool play. They’ll avoid other top seeds initially, and can still get to the medal rounds without a brutal early matchup.
  4. Team depth shines – From heroics like those on display yesterday from wrestlers like Leimana, Kaleb, Trayvn, etc, Utah’s strength from top to bottom is exactly what's needed in a dual meet.
