Weekend Warriors: Rumble Edition

The Rumble this year was as tough as it’s ever been. The brackets featured some fantastic out of state talent due to some states not having a regular season. There were several loaded brackets and we had some Utahans turn in great performances that deserve to be recognized.

Lucas Cochran

At the Rumble, Cochran went on an absolute tear. He pinned his way into the finals where he picked up an 18-1 technical fall. Cochran is adding more offense on his feet which is a scary proposition for his opponents given his prowess from the top position. The Air Force bound senior continues to impress.

Drew Lang

Lang started last week competing at 138 pounds for the All-Star Dual where he had a tough loss to Channing Warner. He bounced back from that match well when he made the move down to 132 pounds for the Rumble. He entered the event seeded fifth and picked up wins over the number four and number one seeds to reach the finals. Now the question is whether or not he’s staying at 132 pounds for the remainder of the season.

Will Harmon

Harmon outperformed his seed at the Rumble. He picked up an upset over the second seeded wrestler to punch his ticket to the finals. Harmon is only a sophomore. Look for him to have several more standout performances before the conclusion of his high school career.

Dillon Dick

Dick at 152 pounds is the best version of him we’ve seen. Technical, strong, and aggressive. He won a Rumble title and wrestled above his number 3 seed. He’s still on the hunt for his first state title and it’s likely we see him check that goal off his list in February.

Dallan Hunsaker

Hunsaker was the highest placer from Utah in one of the deepest weights in the Rumble. On his way to his top five finish, he avenged his All-Star Dual loss to Blake Woolsey. Hunsaker brings it in every match he wrestles and I’m excited to see him contend for a 6A title next month.

Alex Emmer

The New Mexico transplant can’t stop one-upping himself. I know he was featured in the last installment of this series, but he keeps delivering standout performances. He captured a Rumble title and did so by beating River Wardle in the finals who won the 138 pound mini bracket at the All-Star Dual.

Gabe Sanders

Sanders took third at the Rumble for the second year in row. His lone loss was to nationally ranked, Cornell commit Daniel Cardenas from Colorado. Sanders wrestled above his fifth seed and proved he’s one of Utah’s best.

What's Next?

Things aren’t as busy this week. A lot of teams are taking their foot off the gas to some degree to heal up and peak for the postseason. We’ll try to get links for dual meet streams posted for all you nerds and diehards.
