138

1 Sammy Heywood (Sr) Wasatch

2 Channing Warner (So) Juab

3 August Harrison (Sr) Uintah

4 Gabe Sanders (So) Mt. Crest

5 Tyson Humpherys (Sr) Layton

6 Riggin Boger (Fr) Altamont

7 Ryker Pentz (Sr) N. Summit

8 Kaleb Sanchez (Sr) Duchesne

9 Hadley Cowan (Sr) Skyridge

10 MacLaine Percival (Jr) Davis

138 is a little tougher to rank.  Samy Heywood dropped a late January match against Uintah’s Gus Harrison.  He came back and won a 5A title in decisive fashion.  His long history of excellence keeps him atop the rankings despite his late season stumble. Where will Sammy suit up in the future?  2nd place goes to Channing Warner.  The Juab sophomore is #2.  He dropped some matches at the Rumble on a torn ACL, made adjustments to his offense and finised the postseason with a second 3A title, then up a weight logged an impressive win over Ryker Boyce, both basically without changing levels for a leg attack.   Next comes Harrison the 4A champion from Uintah is dangerous,  he pinned Gabe Sanders in the 4A Final, earning his place at #3 on this list, Gus would be a solid pick up on any college team.  Next on the list is Gabe Sanders, the Mountain Crest sophomore came up short in the finals but  has some big wins in his relatively short career.  4 Time State Champion Tyson Humpherys is the #5 wrestler in Utah,  the future Wolverine will be missed in the Layton room.  Freshman Riggin Boger won a title for Altamont, and leads the way among 2A wrestlers who reside in the next 3 spots.  Ryker Pentz of North Summit finished strong beating #8 Sanchez in the 2A semi.  6A finalist Cowan is a Skyridge legend, the two time finalist help build the fledgling falcons into a solid program.  Watch for them to build on his legacy.  The last wrestler on the list is MacLaine Percival of Davis who had some big wins on the season and finished 3rd in 6A

182

1 Lucas Cochran (Jr) Box Elder

2 Mason Christiansen (Sr) Bingham

3 Ryker Blackburn (Sr) Duchesne

4 Brayden Guthrie (Sr) Mt. Crest

5 Danny Garcia (Jr) Millard

6 Jaden Kaibetony (Sr)North Sanpete

7 Taylor Hunt (Sr) South Sevier

8 Rylan Watts (Sr) Juab

9 Ted Johnson (Sr) Pleasant Grove

10 Jacob Kashiwaeda (Sr) Weber

Lucas Cochran is legit.  The Box Elder Junior has lost 1 time in the last two years to Utahn, that likely will not change in the next 12 months.  He is good on his feet, good off bottom and an absolute monster on top.  Look for him to earn All-American honors this spring and be heavily recruited to some D1 Powers.  Right behind Lucas is Mason Christiansen, who established himself in a long career as one of the most dynamic competitors in Utah at all levels.  Unfortunately, injury has hampered his legacy,  still, keep an eye on what Mason does in the future.  Next on the list is Duchesne’s Ryker Blackburn who led his team to a 2A title on the way to his second individual gold.  Another wrestler who helped lead his team to a title and won his own is Brayden Guthrie who tossed his way to a 4A crown. Danny Garcia slides in at #5 for the Millard Eagles after a 2nd place finish in 2 A

Three 3A wrestlers hold down the 6,7, and 8 slots.  Kaibetony won a title for the North Sanpete, the first in a while.  Hopefully, this helps the team in Mount Pleasant build.  Taylor Hunt helped a surging South Sevier team with consistent contributions towards the team goals.  Rylan Watts rounds out the 3A contingent at #8,  Juab will try to replace Watts who has scored quite a few points for the Wasps.  Ted Johnson and Jacob Kashiwaeda who placed 2nd and 3rd in 6A rank 9 and 10 in Utah.
