106

1 Dallan Hunsaker (So) American Fork

2 Dayson Torgerson (Fr) Richfield

3 Trenton Ward (Jr) Bear River

4 Kaden Ercanbrack (So) Juab

5 Kyison Garcia (Fr) Mt. Ridge

6 Jacob Carson (Fr) Pleasant Grove

7 Cody Burr (Fr) Mountain View

8 Hagen Meyer (Fr) Beaver

9 Shayden Taylor (Jr) Delta

10 Tristan Smith (Jr) North Summit

106 presents some very interesting issues.  Dallan Hunsaker established himself as the best 106lber in Utah, he won the Rumble and the 6A crown. Then he got beat by Kysion Garcia at the Altas AllStar dual.  With a 3A title and a 2nd place finish in the Rumble,  Dayson Torgerson is #2.  I truly hope the trend of the Torgerson boys at the Rumble continues.  4A Champ Trenton Ward is #3,  His loss to Ercanbrack which he avenged was his only loss on the season.  Super Impressive.  Ercanbrack had an impressive season for the Juab Wasps.  He finished with a silver medal.  Look for him to be wrestling hard all spring, he can take steps towards washing the taste of silver out of his mouth on Saturdays.  #5 on this list is Kysion.  He won Mountain Ridges 1st state title, more will follow.  His losses to Ward and Ercanbrack hold him in place on this list, despite beating #1.  Before you freak out,  It is not the same situation as 113 so don’t bother.  Next on the list is 6A runner up Jacob Carson and then 5A finalist Cody Burr.  Both freshmen had good seasons Carson’s was expected, I’m not sure many outside of the Mountain View Room saw Burr having the season he did.  Congratulations to him.

Hagen Meyer holds down the #8 slot and does so through having a solid season and finishing it out with a 2A title.  Shayden Taylor may surprise some on this list,  the Delta Rabbit was out much of the year but finished strong once he got into the lineup, beating a host of guys who have been ranked at points in the season.  Rounding out the top 10 is Tristan Smith.  Smith had some big wins this year, but stumbled at State and ended up 3rd.  He will be back next year, and try to put together a senior season to remember.

285

1 Kade Carlson (Sr) Corner Canyon

2 James Tomasi (Sr) Provo

3 Weston Warr (Sr) Fremont

4 Rylee Horrocks (Sr) Mountain View

5 Aaron Wilcox (Sr) Corner Canyon

6 Kellen Collier (Jr) Box Elder

7 Jeshua Koch (Fr) Bear River

8 Shan Jackson (Jr) Juab

9 Kemmer Jones (Sr) South Sevier

10 Drew Dennison (Jr) PG

From the little guys to the big guys, It’ should come as no surprise to see Kade Carlson on top of this list.   Kade dominated Utah opponenets, and wrestled well against some stars from out of State,  His injury at Doc B kept us from seeing what he is capable of at that level, but Kade will go down as one of the best big guys to ever wrestle in Utah.  Good luck to him at West Point.  Tomasi is an animal, he’ll suit up for the Airforce Academy in the future, but in shoulder pads and a helmet, not a singlet.  We will miss his explosiveness on the mat.  Warr is #3 the Silverwolf hopefully has plans at the next level,  let us know what they are.  Rylee Horrocks stepped into the slot at Mountain View with big shoes to fill, the Bruins have a long history of solid big guys, and Horrocks only adds to that tradition. Aaron Wilcox had the unfortunate privilege of being behind Kade Carlson in the Corner Canyon Lineup.  Unfortunate, in that he missed out on some varsity mat time,  but he got to wrestle with the best kid in Utah regularly. Kellen Kollier will be back for Box Elder the Bees class of 2021 will be scary good.   Can the get a trophy out of it?  Don’t be surprised.  Jeshua Koch is a 4A State Champion at 285.  Jeshua Koch is a Freshman.  Let that sink in.  He is good.  He is going to be scary good.  Watch out fo him Next on the list come two 3A heavyweights. Shan Jackson won his second title in 3A and will be back for #3 next year.  His opponent in the 3A finals is Kemmer Jones,  the South Sevier Ram had a very good season and was right in the mix with Jackson up until an unfortunate injury hobbled him in the final.  If you missed out on the raw heart and toughness displayed by Jones, you missed out on one of the things that make this sport great.  Drew Dennison rounds out the top 10.  The PG big man will also be back next season.  He placed 4th in 6A behind 3 seniors, he should start the season at #1 in 6A.
