1 Stockton O'brien (Sr) Wasatch

2 Ryker Boyce (Sr) Desert Hills

3 Brock Edwards (Sr) Beaver

4 Carson Sheets (Sr) Altamont

5 Oakley Ridge (Sr) Pleasant Grove

6 Colter Ricks (Sr) Ridgeline

7 Chase Ingram( Fr) Juab

8 Moses Espinoza-Owens (Fr) Viewmont

9 Mahkyi Smith (Fr) Skyridge

10 Jordan Davies (So) Syracuse

Stockton is #1 no questions.  We will get the chance to watch him in a UVU singlet in the future.  It will be fun to see him progress, can he earn AA honors as a Wolverine? Boyce, Edwards, Sheets, Ridge and Ricks, all seniors, all with the definite potential to be competitive at the college level.  They will all hopefully be wrestling in Iowa or Virginia Beach as well as in Fargo to get themselves on the radar of college coaches.  With D1, D2, D3, NJCAA, NAIA schools all looking for kids that can help their program, it’d be nice to see some of these guys on the mat again in the future.  The Top 6 145lbers are Seniors, the rest are all under classmen.  We need a tournament to see which Freshman is the best.  Ingram, Espinoza-Owens and Smith all bring slightly different strengths to the match.  Each had a freshman campaign with the typical ups and downs and all 3 made the finals.  Ingram comes away with the gold and the others will have to wait until next year.  Rounding out the top 10 is another underclassman in the form of Syracuse Sophomore Jordan Davies.  Looking forward to the battles between these guys in the years to come.

1 Blake Mangelson (Sr) Juab

2 MacIntyre Thacker (Jr) Altamont

3 Kenton Norman (Sr) Herriman

4 Hunter Larsen (Sr) Sky View

5 Dawson Bundy (So) Desert Hills

6 Sau Tafisi (Sr) East

7 Cael Richardson (Jr) Timpview

8 Anthony Stockwell (Sr) Westlake

9 Aaron Carty (Sr) Bonneville

10 Harrington Ray (Sr) Lehi

Blake Mangleson has shown himself to be the best 220lber in the State.  His length and athleticism is issues for anyone he wrestles.  Couple that with a hard-nosed pressuring Juab style and you have a formidable wrestler.  Mac Thacker will claim his position atop the 220-pound rankings and will be hard to dethrone in his senior season.  He is the definition of Farm strong.  Just a big rawboned kid with a ton of skills on the mat.  He holds down the #2 spot because of his technical abilities which separate him from the rest of the field.  Herriman’s Norman holds down the #3 spot, placing at RTOC and the Rumble put this mustang in the mix.  Not sure what his plans are next year, but someone ought to be knocking on his door.  Hunter Larsen is another kid who could make an impact in a college room if given the chance.  Dawson Bundy will look to get atop the podium next year and help Desert Hills vie for 4A legitimacy.  One or two pieces and the Thunder could pose a real threat.  Sau Tafisi is playing Football at the next level, good luck to him, it was fun to watch the combination of athleticism and raw power the East Leopard exhibited on the mat.  He edged Cale Richardson at State, but the Thunderbird Junior had bested Tafisi earlier in the year.  Richardson will be back next year and will look to lead a Timpview team that is on the rise to new heights.  Another solid performer, #8 Anthony Stockwell will be missed by his Westlake program, big guys who can be counted on for big points are hard to find and Stockwell had 25+ bonus-point wins this season.  Aaron Carty and Harrington Ray wrestled in the 5A Consi Finals where Carty was victorious both flew under the radar all season but had solid results for programs who are looking to build.
