This weekend we had some great wrestling. The 1A/2A classifications crowned state champions and the 4A classification solidified state qualifiers in their divisional tournaments. Here’s some warriors!
After a runner-up finish one year ago, Brock Edwards made sure to not let it happen again. He capped off his senior campaign with a win over Altamont’s very talented Carson Sheets to claim the 2A title at 145 pounds.
The senior helped his team claim the 2A state championship and toppled defending state champion, Caleb Leavitt to claim an individual title at 120 pounds.
Dick was among seven divisional champions for Uintah. In the finals he won a 6-5 decision over Riley Helt of Pineview in this writer’s favorite matchup in the 4A classification. Luckily for wrestling fans, we get to see these two extremely competitive wrestlers go at it again at the state tournament.
The junior heavyweight from Green Canyon had himself a fantastic weekend. He entered the tournament seeded sixth and pinned his way through the tournament. This run included back to back wins over Bear River’s top two seeded wrestlers.
We have 5A/6A state Wednesday-Thursday and 3A/4A state Friday-Saturday. There are some great storylines to follow across all the classifications. Intriguing team races, individual rivalries and more. Best of luck to everyone involved!
