Weekend Warriors (January 31-February 2)

The divisional tournaments are the state qualifier. There were some great matchups from the weekend that we could possibly see rematches of at the state tournaments next week. Let’s recognize some great efforts!

Conner Ingram (Juab)

Ingram won the title at 3A Divisional A. He had two falls and a tech fall to make the finals where he met Tristan Fillmore in an All-Star Dual rematch. He tied their series at 1-1 with a 9-6 decision.

Aidan Harris (Layton)

Harris notched three bonus victories to reach the finals of 6A Divisional B to secure a rematch of last year’s state finals match against Marco Herrera. The match wasn’t going Harris’ way. He was trailing 4-0 with under 30 seconds remaining and took Herrera down to his back to win.

Brennan Campbell (Morgan)

I’ve often heard coaches tell wrestlers that once you he divisional and state tournaments arrive, it’s a new season and a clean slate. Brennan Campbell has taken that sentiment to heart. He entered his divisional with a losing record and won the tournament.

Jacob Finlinson (Westlake)

Two-time state champion Jacob Finlinson met fellow state champion, Drew Lang in a battle between Beehive 25 ranked wrestlers. Finlinson scored an escape in the round and went on to win 1-0.

What’s Next?

State tournaments. Best of luck to all the wrestlers, coaches and communities!
