Utah’s Weekend Warriors January 1-5

Dusty Hone (Oklahoma State)

Hone prepped at Cedar High School where he was a four-time state champion and national champion before he went to Stillwater. This weekend at the Southern Scuffle, Hone picked up wins over a pair of All-Americans Tariq Wilson (NC State) and Kyle Shoop (Lock Haven) on his way to a third place finish. Nice job, Dusty!

Jake Richardson (Pleasant Grove)

Richardson travelled to California for the prestigious Doc Buchanan and was Utah’s highest placer with a fourth place finish at 170 pounds. He entered the tournament seeded 11 and knocked off several wrestlers ranked ahead him on his way to the semifinals.

Waylen Pentz (Morgan)

This weekend, Pentz had a breakout performance at the 3A Duals. He went 9-0 at 120 pounds with eight falls and a tech fall. His dominant run included wins over Joseph Mecham and Byron Christiansen.

Tyler Scheurn (North Summit)

Scheurn went 9-0 at the 2A duals with seven falls, a tech fall and avenged one of his losses from last season with a 12-5 win over returning state champion, John Whittaker. Scheurn is undefeated this season and there’s some very interesting matchups for him at 170 pounds for the All-Star Dual.

Deegan Palmer (Payson)

Returning state finalist, Deegan Palmer went undefeated at the 5A duals. He won five matches by fall and scored an upset decision over Parker Frasure.
