TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW:
The Doc Buchanan is a tough tournament. There was conversation when we talked about Reno and the Walsh Ironman about how tough these tournaments are. While Walsh is insanely tough, DOC B is more accessible to most Utah wrestlers. As far as how tough Doc B is compared to Reno, I would say that this year at least, it’s a little bit more than twice as tough as Reno.

How will Utah Do?
Kade Carlson: Kade being seeded 3rd obviously give him an edge. The Montini Catholic wrestler he could face in the quarters is no joke, and then in the semi’s he’ll have the highest ranked heavyweight in the tournament. For you UFC Fans, Gilroy is coached by none other than Daniel Cormier, and the coach at Montini, Israel Martinez also coaches Jon Jones.
Stockton O’Brien: Stock should place. He is the 6 seed and should wrestle to that place at minimum, at 138, Stockton should be a tough match for anyone in the field. The 138lb RTOC Champ and 2nd place finisher are seeded 2 and 4. He’ll likely have to beat RTOC Champ Cardenas if he wants to see the final, but also a tough Teague Travis of Father Tolton in Missouri to hit the Semi.
River Wardle: River at 126 is a scary thought. His length will cause problems for the guys he wrestles. That being said, 126 at the Doc B is loaded. Chance Lamer of Crescent Valley Oregon who won Reno is the 5 seed. River should see Maximo Renteria in the Quarters, Renteria, a Buchanan product, is tough, he placed 2nd at this tournament last year and will be more than a handful for Wardle.
Jake Richardson: Jake as the 11 seed has a shot at placing. He will have to beat some tough kids to do so, but there are some guys ranked ahead of him that I believe he can beat.
Mason Christiansen: Mason like Jake will have a tough row to hoe to get on the podium, but Mason has the skills and mentality to do it. Hopefully, the two Utahns don’t meet in the blood round. They should both be there.
Ryker Boyce: Boyce is also down at 138. He earned a seed, and will have the RTOC Champ Cardenas of Pomona early. Boyce has a chance to put himself on the radar of some coaches. Hopefully he does that.
Sammy Heywood: Sammy is unseeded at 132. He will have Wyatt Yapoujian in his second match and if he gets past that monumental test, he’ll meet a Oak Park - River Forest stud in Nico Bolivar.
Riley Helt: Helt is at 132 and also unseeded. He will also have a rough path to the podium. He has a bye the first round and then has a Circle W guy that I don’t see him beating. Nic Masters of Woodward Academy in GA is pretty good.
Jacob Carson: Carson has Zach Ourada from Skutt Catholic out of Omaha Nebraska. Solid program, 9 seed, but at 103, there are a lot of unknowns at play, can Jacob be one of those unknowns who breaks a bracket wide open? It’s possible!!!
Zeke Kelley: Zeke drew the #10 seed out of Rowland CA, Zeke has it in him to make some noise in this tournament, and turn some heads. Go take it young man!
Oakley Ridge: Oakley has 7 seed Luke Gayer of Calvary Chapel 1st round. That’s a tough draw. But Oakley has looked good this season. Can he pull off an upset? If he does, he could go deep into this bracket on the top side.
