Utah’s Weekend Warriors (12/27-12/29)

Thanks to the holiday, there wasn’t much wrestling to cover this week. But that doesn’t mean there weren’t any noteworthy performances turned in by Utahans across the country at multiple levels. We don’t have as many this week but sometimes, quality is better than quantity.

Jaron Jensen

Jensen is a former Herriman Mustang turned Wyoming Cowboy. During his time at Herriman, he was one of Utah’s best and captured multiple state titles and All-American honors. This weekend, Wyoming traded in the cold winds of Laramie for the sunshine of Florida at the South Beach Duals. Jensen went 2-0 on Sunday with a win over Hunter Richard (Cornell) and a huge upset (6-5) against Missouri’s Brock Mauler who was ranked number two at the time by FloWrestling at 149 pounds. Well done, Mr. Jensen!

Dallan Hunsaker

American Fork took a trip out to Reno for the Sierra Nevada Classic. Returning state finalist, Dallan Hunsaker had a strong outing at 106 pounds, securing a fourth-place finish with a 5-2 record that included two wins by fall and two wins by tech-fall.

Wyatt Koelling

Koelling has been one of Utah’s most successful high school wrestlers of this decade. He was a three-time state champion for Davis High School and earned himself All-American status in all three styles throughout his high school career before joining the Missouri Tigers. Sunday, he had a great showing at the South Beach Duals with a 2-0 performance that included wins over Stephen Buchanan (Wyoming) and Timothy Young (Old Dominion) at 197 pounds.

What’s Next?

Don’t worry, the Christmas wrestling drought is over. This week, we have 5A duals, 2A duals, 1A duals, the War at the Watchtower and a couple of other events throughout the state.

Have a great week, Utah wrestling nerds!
