The 2019-2020 High School wrestling season is right around the corner and will be here before you know it. We couldn't wait any longer to dive in and start taking a look at each weight class and what we can expect  for this upcoming season.  These lists are only guesses and good reading so let us know where we might have missed someone and we will do our best to make adjustments and post updates as they happen.

145 pounds

  1. River Wardle (Jr.) Wasatch (5A) 2019 State Champion
  2. Ryker Boyce (Sr.) Desert Hills (4A) 2019 State Champion
  3. Carson Sheets (Sr.) Altamont (2A) 2019 State 3rd
  4. Josh Armstrong (Jr.) Hurricane (4A) 2019 State 3rd
  5. Austin Gillette (Sr.) Farmington (5A) 2019 State 2nd
  6. August Harrison (Sr.) Uintah (4A) 2019 State 4th
  7. Dillon Dick (So.) Uintah (4A) 2019 State 5th
  8. Oakley Ridge (Sr.) Pleasant Grove (6A) 2019 State 3rd

River Wardle has started elevating himself to be one of the best in Utah. He makes a big jump in weight classes this year but I expect him to continue on with success. Boyce comes in at #2 and will be the top guy in a tough 4A with 4 of the 8 ranked coming from this division.

After the top 2 it gets dicey....I have Sheets at #3, super solid but he did lose to Dillon Dick at the Rumble. Really from here on, everyone has beaten everyone so your guess is as good as mine. I like Sheets at #3, he's a senior, last chance to prove he's one of the best, has a great room and competes in the off season and continues to improve. #4 is Josh Armstrong, lost to Dillon Dick at state but came back and beat August Harrison who beat Dick. The Armstrong's are all tough and are great competitors. He has the potential to beat some talented kids but needs to put together a full season.

#5 is Austin Gillette, he started the season on fire last year with wins over Dillon Dick and a win over Sammy Heywood. He ended up taking 2nd at state to O'brien and had an overall solid season.  #6 and #7 are August Harrison and Dillon Dick. They are teammates and most likely will occupy the 138 and 145 pound spots for their team or possibly one drops and they go 132 and 138. Either way I know I got at least one of them at the wrong weight. I have Harrison above Dillon since he beat him at state. Both have the ability to be at #3 on this ranking and possibly higher if they continue to improve. Dillon is only a sophomore and has a lot of upside. I am excited to see how he can progress throughout his high school career. Rounding out the top 8 we have Oakley Ridge from Pleasant Grove. He is another, like Sheets, that will be a senior and I expect to do much better than his starting ranking of #8. Very athletic and has a lot of ability.

145 pounds has a bunch of unknowns, in my opinion. No guarantees that Wardle will even be here but it makes the most sense for their team. If he is down at 138 pounds then we will get to see a very interesting match in Wardle vs. Humpherys, which would be one of the top matches I would love to see this year......maybe an All-Star featured match......  If he isn't here does that mean O'brien will be here or Heywood? You also have Colter Ricks from Ridgeline, DJ Butler from Roy and Conway Christensen from Murray that are right outside the top 8. .
