The 2019-2020 High School wrestling season is right around the corner and will be here before you know it. We couldn't wait any longer to dive in and start taking a look at each weight class and what we can expect  for this upcoming season.  These lists are only guesses and good reading so let us know where we might have missed someone and we will do our best to make adjustments and post updates as they happen.

126 pounds

  1. Joseph Mecham (Sr.) Grantsville - 2019 State Champion
  2. Josh Millward (So.) Skyridge - 2019 State Runner Up
  3. Brady Merkley (So.) Uintah - 2019 State Champion
  4. Jaxon Bearden (So.) Mt. Ridge - 2019 State 3rd
  5. Ethan Clayburn (Sr.) Duchesne - 2019 State 3rd
  6. Corbin Platt (So.) Fremont - 2019 State 3rd
  7. Nathan Bartholomew (Jr.) American Fork - 2019 State 3rd
  8. Tucker Butler (So.) Westlake - 2019 State 5th

I feel that the top 4 in this weight class are the top 4 but after that things get questionable and it could be ranked multiple ways with other kids in the rankings over the guys currently ranked depending on who goes what weights etc. At #1, Joseph Mecham, had a very solid season at 113 pounds last year placing 4th at the Rumble and winning a state title. Right behind him is Josh Millward, who didn't get a bunch of quality wins, but also didn't have many losses. He is a very solid wrestler and I expect him to push Mecham for that #1 spot.

Merkley at #3 had a very solid season, he took a couple losses at 113 but when he moved down to 106 he was pretty much lights out. I am anxious to see how he competes at a higher weight. If he isn't big enough for 126 and goes 120 that will make an already stacked weight class even better. If he is at 126lbs I expect him to challenge Mecham and Millward for a top spot. Bearden is another that looks to take a leap in weight classes and may very well be at 132 with how much he has grown.

Number 5 and 6 go to Ethan Clayburn from Duchesne and Corbin Platt from Fremont. Both are solid wrestlers, but this is where things get tough with who should go where. Clayburn had a solid all around season and Platt had a great state tournament. At #7 and #8 we have Nathan Bartholomew and Tucker Butler from American Fork and Westlake. Both had solid seasons with Bartholomew beating Butler at state. There are many other wrestlers that could figure into the rankings at 126lbs including Terrell Lee, Heath Clyde, Cooper Cox and Wyatt Romriell. Another one that could stir things up is Mack Bray from Millard. I have Mack down at 120 for the season but if he is at 126 pounds he could easily figure into the top 4 somewhere.
