Gavin Regis has been named wrestleutah.com "Athlete of the Week" for the week of November 6th, 2016.

Gavin is currently a 3rd grader and entering his 5th year of wrestling. The first time Gavin stepped on the mat at the age of 4, he had an immediate love for wrestling. You could always tell by the giant smile on his face during a match, which he has since learned to swap for a more serious face.

Gavin recently placed 4th in state in Greco, which happens to be his favorite style of wrestling. This year he’s off to a good start in the fall league with a current record of 19-4. His dedication, passion and self-discipline is inspiring to anyone who knows him. Gavin is a natural born fighter; he was born with multiple congenital heart defects and required lifesaving surgery as a newborn. Although wrestling is not an ideal sport for a child with his heart condition, with proper monitoring from some of the best cardiologist in the state, he is determined to not let it stop him. He will continue to wrestle as long as he is able to maintain clearance from his doctors.

Gavin has been lucky to work with some of the best coaches who push him to always strive for more. He has become an outstanding student and athlete who stands out amongst his peers. He has attended a private school in Ogden since he was in kindergarten and has always been at the top of his class. Gavin favorite subject in school is math and science. He was nominated by his classmates in 2nd grade to run to be the class president and was ultimately elected into the position for all of 2nd grade.
