Layton will be Pleasant Grove's competition so we will look at their line up next. This is our best prediction so weights may be off and if we are missing kids feel free to let us know in the comments below!

Returning State Placers: 6

  • Dalton Stutzman (2nd)
  • Terrell Barraclough (1st)
  • Tanner Benedict (2nd)
  • Austin Clem (3rd)
  • James Porritt (4th)
  • Dylan Tucker (6th in 2015)

Returning State Qualifiers: 10

Impact Freshman & expected weight

  • Tyson Humpherys: 113 (2016 Youth Super State Champion)
  • Canyon Brann: 138 (2016 Youth Super State 3rd)

Layton has the most returning state points of any 5A team and they have a stud freshman coming in at 113lbs in Tyson Humpherys. Steven Quintana will also be back in the line up and the Lancers might be ready to make a run at a state title and snap the Viking streak.

Layton is a very senior heavy team in the upper weights so if they are going to get the job done this might be their best chance. With possible state champs in the first 4 weight classes they will be tough to deal with if they all come through.

Possible line-up

106: Dalton Stutzman (Sr.) - 2016 State 2nd place

113: Tyson Humpherys (Fr.) - 2016 Youth Super State Champion

120: Terrell Barraclough (So.) - 2016 State Champion

126: Tanner Benedict (Sr.) - 2016 State 2nd place

132: Gage Howard (So.)

138: Canyon Brann (So.) 2016 Youth Super State 3rd

145: Steven Quintana (Jr.)

152: Weston Memmott (Jr.)

160: Austin Clem (Sr.) 2016 State 3rd

170: Jon Lund (Sr.) 2016 State Qualifier

182: James Porritt (Sr.) 2016 State 4th

195: Ra'zhan Reed (Sr.) 2016 State Qualifier

220: Micah Vuki (Sr.) 2016 State Qualifier

285: Dylan Tucker (Sr.) 2015 State 6th

I could see Benedict at 132 with Howard at 126 as well. The team race will be a fun one to watch this year in 5A with the team making the least amount of mistakes/injuries along the way could be the team that comes away with the title.
