Dean Thompson has been named wrestleutah.com "Athlete of the Week" for January 28th, 2015.

Each week, wrestleutah.com will select two "Athletes of the Week." One for the PreK-9th grade age groups, and one for the high  school  and above  age group  which will include high  school , college, coaches and teams. The selection committee will consider and choose from nominees based upon performance within wrestling that week.

 Dean Thompson is 12 years old and in the 7th grade at Altamont Jr.- Sr. High School.  He is the youngest of 4 boys.  Just after Dean turned one year old it was discovered that he had 3 heart defects.  Soon after discovering this he under went open heart surgery to correct his condition.  Despite a rough start as a toddler, Dean has thrived not only as an athlete but has always achieved high marks in school.  He is well liked by everyone he meets and makes friends easily. Last year Dean was so excited to win the State Championship in the 1a,2a, 3a, middle school weight bracket of 76 lbs.  Since last year he has been undefeated in several tournaments, was selected to compete in the Jr. High all star duals at UVU, and just last weekend was the 12 and under 84 lb. Beehive Brawl Champion.  What an amazing year so far... He still has his Jr. High state tournament to go.  Dean has accomplished a lot so far but has many lofty goals yet to achieve.  He believes that if he continues to work hard and learn from his coaches and many wrestlers that he looks up to, he will be able to achieve many more state championship titles, and other wrestling accomplishments. 

 Besides Wrestling, Dean loves to do anything that involves action.  He likes to ride his horse, play football with his friends, ride his motor bike, Hunt and Fish.  In the past year he has even started to compete in rodeo's.  He loves to rope, steer wrestle, and ride bulls.
